Neurological tests, or nerve conduction studies, are important in diagnosing problems related to nerves, muscles, spinal cord or the brain. These tests measure the speed and intensity of electrical signals through nerves and calculate the time and velocity in which muscles respond to these impulses.

Because nerves actually produce small amounts of electricity, their activity can be affected by disease, injury, or other conditions. Diagnosis is extremely important in helping your doctor develop your treatment plan.

Our neurological tests help in diagnosing: -Pinched Nerves -Carpal Tunnel Syndrome -Tarsal Tunnel -Spinal Cord Dysfunction -Nerve disorders and Neuromuscular Disorders. For more information go to www.bmtndx.com.

Poor posture creates muscle imbalances, in-coordination, and other dysfunctions. These problems can be identified by postural analysis, gait analysis, muscle length tests, and evaluation of key movement patterns. These imbalances are many times the reason why pain recurs and conditions become chronic. Our focus is to treat and educate patients on how they can correct these problems whether it be while working at the office or working around the house.

Our office is equipped with cardiovascular equipment as well as strength training bands, tubing and stability balls. Research shows that to achieve lasting pain relief it is imperative to strengthen weak and dysfunctional muscles. Although sometimes muscle are more painful in the short-term, therapeutic exercise is the key to long-term pain relief. Our programs are designed on an individual basis and specific for each condition. We also prescribe “low-tech” at home programs that can be done easily in minutes and still offer the remarkable benefits some people think can only come from an expensive gym membership and fancy equipment.

A piece of equipment commonly used by Chiropractors is the interferential current machine. This machine produces electrical currents that pass through the affected area of the patient. The current tends to penetrate deeper than other electrical modalities and has a number of physiological effects that have therapeutic value.

The physiological effects include:

an increase in localized blood flow which can improve healing by reducing swelling and as a result helps remove damaged tissue and bring nutrients necessary for healing to the injured area

the stimulation of local nerve cells that can have a pain reducing/anaesthetic effect due to potentially blocking the transmission of the pain signals (pain gate mechanism) or by stimulating the release of pain reducing endorphins (opiod mechanism)

some degree of muscle stimulation as to reduce muscle spasm

During treatment patient will feel a tingling or ‘pins and needles’ sensation at the contact area of the electrodes and may also feel the tingling sensation throughout the area being treated. This sensation may continue for a brief period following treatment as well. The intensity of the current should be increased within the patient’s comfort level. A stronger current will usually have a more beneficial effect but the intensity should not be turned up so high as to cause pain.

Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that has been used by Chiropractors since the 1940s. Ultrasound is applied using a round-headed wand or probe that is put in direct contact with the patient’s skin. Ultrasound can produce many effects other than just the potential heating effect. It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies, promote bone fracture healing.

Functional rehabilitation is not just the building of muscle strength and endurance. It is creating and establishing complex movement patterns as well as strength, endurance and flexibility.

We believe that restoring optimal function is the most important component in eliminating pain and preventing injury.

After an injury, the body’s muscles, joints and other tissues guard and function incorrectly as a short term protective mechanism to the injured area. This dysfunction must be correctly diagnosed and addressed in order to completely recover and prevent reoccurrence. There is much more to long term successful treatment of musculoskeletal conditions than just getting the patient out of “pain.”
